UK Pigman Engineering researcher awarded NSF grant to harness AI aimed at detecting calf illness

Simone Silvestri, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Computer Science in the Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering, is part of a research team that has been awarded a grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) to answer that very question.

Silvestri receives two awards for editorial service

Recently, Simone Silvestri, associate professor in the Department of Computer Science, was recognized with two awards for his service as editor in scientific journals. Silvestri received the 2024 Best Editor Award from the Pervasive and Mobile Computing Journal. He currently serves on the journal's editorial board and was selected for his exceptional contributions, dedication and unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of editorial excellence. 

Ph.D. student named 2024 CPS Rising Star

Xu Tao, a graduate student in the Pigman College of Engineering , was one of 45 scholars from across the nation selected to attend the competitive 2024 CPS Rising Stars Workshop, hosted by the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Simone Silvestri in the Department of Computer Science and Yuan Liao and Samson Cheung in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, are the recipients of a NCAE-C Cybersecurity Workforce Innovation Coalition grant award to develop a new cybersecurity curriculum.
